Upon this assignment, I decided to shut off my phone during my 1 hour and 30 minute commute to and back home from school. It was such a weird feeling because I NEVER shut off my phone. ever. But in my head I was thinking, "I can do this. It's only an hour and thirty minutes. I've done it before...this is nothing."
Immediately after 5 minutes, I totally forgot I had started this experiment and wanted to text a friend the very thought that had crossed my mind in that split second.
In this moment I realized some things:
1. I am more accustomed to instant gratification than I had ever thought.
2. Sometimes I talk text language when thoughts roam through my head.
text thought 1
" I just remembered about our rings and I got REAL excited...
TOTALLY forgot about themmmm =D"
text thought 2
" I just ate a snickers...only because its 9:30 am LOLLL"

Not being on my phone while commuting was totally out of the norm for me. It really made me more aware of my surroundings and what was really going on. I started observing everyone on my train. Everyone was literally sucked into their own worlds, eyes fixated on their phones, not aware of what's going on right next to them. The sight of such hypnosis made me think about how our public interactions have evolved in parallel to the integration of advanced technology within our lives.
